Aston Villa are set to launch a £14m bid to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United this summer, as Dean Smith continues to reshape his squad ahead of a Premier League return.

A report in the Telegraph has confirmed that Smith has highlighted Phillips as a top target this summer after an excellent season in the Championship, with the newly-promoted side set to test Leeds’ stance with a £14m bid.

It is also noted that the Whites could demand £20m for the 23-year-old, who really thrived in the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa last season.

In 44 appearances, the holding midfielder scored one goal and registered three assists, as well as impressively developing other parts of his game under the tuition of Bielsa.

After watching Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak leave Villa Park in wake of promotion, Villa are on the lookout for new defensive midfield options and they are impressed that Phillips is on the radar.
