Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Andy Lonergan, who has agreed a one-year contract at the Riverside Stadium.

Leeds United released Lonergan earlier in the summer, after the goalkeeper endured a difficult second spell at Elland Road.

Tony Pulis has moved to sign the free agent, with Lonergan’s arrival at the Riverside Stadium confirmed on their official website this afternoon.

The 34-year-old was Leeds’ second choice goalkeeper for much of last season, featuring in the cup competitions and making just seven Championship appearances, all of which came under Thomas Christiansen.

The ex-Leeds goalkeeper has now linked up with Middlesbrough, which has received plenty of reaction from Leeds’ supporters.

Earlier this week, Leeds swooped to sign Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough, with many moving to compare the deals, which look a lot better on paper for the Whites.
