Bradford City have moved to ensure they retained the services of Danny Devine, with the 21-year-old penning a new one-year deal at Valley Parade, as reported by the club's official website.

The midfielder featured in the run-in to the season, with Gary Bowyer clearly seeing something in the academy graduate worthy of rewarding him with a new deal.

Bowyer was delighted to have tied the local lad down to a new deal, saying; “Danny has shown he has the ability to play a big part next season. It was important, with him being a local lad, to get him signed early on.

“I am looking forward to seeing him continue improving as a player and establishing himself in the first team.”

Devine broke through in the 2016/17 season, making his debut as an 18-year-old and showing lots of early promise. His last campaign was blighted by injury, but with the Bantams slipping out of League One he's now expected to play a role in their endeavour to regain third-tier status.

He made just six appearances last season, three of those coming under Bowyer after April, with two from the start of matches.

It's a move which has delighted the Bantams fans who have had little to cheer in recent months. They've responded well on Twitter as they face up to life in the basement division.
