Former England and Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has emerged as a potential replacement for Garry Monk after his recent Sheffield Wednesday exit, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the Yorkshire club.

Monk was sacked at the start of the week and a string of names have been linked with the vacant role at Hillsborough since with the new manager hunt clearly underway.

The Athletic has reported that Eriksson is interested in the job and has made contact with the Yorkshire club as he looks to return to English football.

The 72-year-old took charge of the England national team between 2001 and 2006 before short spells at Manchester City and later Leicester City.

All of his roles since have been in Asia, managing a string of Chinese Super League sides and, most recently, the Philippines national side.

The international break has given Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri a little more time to make his decision and it seems he is not short of options, with the report suggesting the club has been inundated with applications.

Sol Campbell, Paul Cook, Lee Johnson, Ryan Lowe, and Tony Pulis have also been linked with the club with the latter understood to be in advanced talks.
