Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has the future of another player to consider following Jordan Lyden's return to Villa Park, after he had a short-term loan at Oldham Athletic in League Two.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has appeared 10 times and scored once during his spell at Boundary Park and leaves the Latics in 10th place in League Two.

Lyden has been at Villa Park since 2015, but has he done enough to get a new deal at Villa Park?

We discuss.....

He has been impressive for Oldham this season, none more so than in last weekend’s FA Cup win over Premier League Fulham.

Dean Smith might see this as an opportunity to integrate him into the first team after a successful loan spell.

On the basis of that, he should be given a new deal to prove himself at the club under the new manager and try to break his way back into the first team.

Chris Gallagher

I think he should - Give him a chance Smith.

He has had a good spell out on loan and is a promising player.

Obviously, he is a long way away from the first-team now, but he warrants a new deal as he could improve over the next few years.

George Dagless

It's tough to say.

He's got some talent but I don't know whether he is good enough for Villa.

Maybe give him one more, see what he can do.
