Gillingham star midfielder Bradley Dack has told the Bristol Post just exactly why he stayed put during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old maestro was the subject of plenty of speculation during the transfer window, and rejected a last minute move to Bristol City on deadline day to see out the season with the Gills.

Dack said: We are on a good run here and I wanted to see it out. We all want to get that promotion. We are all committed to the club and now we have to push on. Every point matters. I have been here since I was 14. It would have been a big decision to make but it wasn't one I ever got to consider. Nothing came of it.

"I am committed to this club and happy to stay until the end of the season and on if it transpires."

The midfielder has contributed goals and assists in abundance this season with 14 goals and 10 assists doing serious damage to teams trying to stop the Gills in their tracks.

The club have found themselves right in the mix for promotion, sitting in fourth place, one point off second and only five off top spot.

Dack also paid tribute to manager Justin Edinburgh, insinuating the former Spurs defender was another key reason behind Dacks form and reason to stay at the Priestfield Stadium.

"I owe a lot to the gaffer. He has done a lot for me, he has given me the confidence to go out and express myself. He has given me that free role in the final third to go and pick up the ball, get into good positions and create and score goals. I owe a lot to him, along with Steve Lovell and David Kerslake, they have done a lot for me and helped me".

Dack will be hoping he can guide the Gills back to the Championship for the first time since the 2004/2005 season when they suffered relegation.

They have since been a bit of a yo yo team between leagues 1 and 2, and Dack will be doing his best to get the Gills back in the second tier.

Should Gillingham fail to win promotion however, Dack will be a wanted man during the summer and they may well struggle to hold on to their star man.
