Gillingham sign John Egan

Gillingham have completed the signing of former Sunderland defender John Egan the club have announced on their official website.
Egan has signed a two-year deal with the club following his release from the Premier League side at the end of the season. Egan is boss Peter Taylor’s second signing of the day following the signing of Luke Norris earlier.
Egan twenty-one has come through the youth ranks at Sunderland but never made a first team appearance for the club. He has spent time away from the Stadium of Light, with loan spells at Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Bradford City.
Egan ended last season on loan to League Two side Southend United he made thirteen appearances for the Essex club and found the back of the net once.
Egan has also represented Republic of Ireland six times at under 21 level.
