Gillingham manager Steve Evans has revealed that the League One side are close to adding another midfielder to their squad.

The official BBC Radio Kent Sport account on Twitter reported the news this morning as Gillingham wait for a final decision from the un-named player.

The January transfer window may have closed a few weeks ago but that doesn't stop clubs from adding free agents to their squad and Gillingham are looking to take advantage of bolstering their squad for the run-in.

Money seems to be slightly tight at Gillingham lately with the Gills bringing in just two left wingers on loan during last month's transfer window.

Jordan Roberts arrived from Ipswich Town before Jordan Graham joined the club on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Kent club currently have plenty of options in the midfield department  as Stuart O'Keefe, Matty Willock, Regan Charles-Cook, Ben Pringle, Mark Byrne, Graham, Roberts and Olly Lee can all feature in the midfield whether it be centrally or on the wing.

Gillingham are looking to make a push for the play-offs as they are sat ninth in the table with sixth-placed Portsmouth four points ahead of them.

The Verdict

The new midfielder that Gillingham are looking to bring in could help their push for the play-offs at a crucial time.

Evans is busy trying to improve his squad for the final couple of months and he is right not settling with the squad he has got with the opportunity arising to improve it.
