League One outfit Gillingham are set to complete the signing of Yeovil Town defender Alex Lacey on a free transfer this summer, according to HITC Sport.
The 23-year-old’s contract at Huish Park is to expire at the end of June and Gills manager Ady Pennock looks likely to pen his first acquisition, since being named permanent head coach earlier this month.
Lacey proved to be pivotal in Yeovil’s League Two campaign, featuring in 43 matches and made himself a prominent figure of the Glovers’ squad, earning the club’s Player of the Season award among others.
Having begun his career at Luton Town, the Milton Keynes-born centre-back had loan spells at Cambridge United, Thurrock, Eastbourne Borough and Eastleigh prior to signing for his current employer back in 2015.
It is understood that a number of clubs were chasing Alex Lacey this summer, including Gillingham’s league rivals Charlton Athletic and Oxford United, however, it is the Kent-based outfit who have won the race.
