Charlton Athletic Striker Jayden Stockley looks set to stay at the Valley beyond this transfer window, according to the South London Press.

The Addicks have been willing to listen to offers for the striker this month and that has attracted some interest in the 29-year-old.

League One side Fleetwood Town have been credited with an interest in the striker this month, as Scott Brown, who is the Fleetwood manager said to be an admirer of the striker.

While League Two side Gillingham have also recently been a side that have expressed an interest in signing the striker this month.

Now, according to this report, Stockley is ready to stay at Charlton and fight for his place in the team, as the striker tries to move up the pecking order once again.

Charlton boss Dean Holden has taken the captaincy off Stockley as the striker has failed to start a game for the Addicks since the 29th of December.

So far, it’s been a tricky season for the 29-year-old, who has not built on last season, when he scored 20 goals in all competitions.

This term, the club has moved away from a direct style of play, and this has had an effect on Stockley’s career at Charlton.

The striker has played 24 times in the league this season but has only managed two goals and provided three assists. Stockley has only appeared in 13 minutes of league action so far this month.

The Verdict

This will probably be a surprise to many, as most Charlton fans will have probably expected Stockley to depart this month, especially after Macauley Bonne was brought back to the club.

However, if the club have had no real tempting offers, then it makes sense for them to keep hold of the 29-year-old until the summer at the very least. Stockley can still play a big part in Charlton’s season, and Holden will know that the striker can be an asset for his side.

It does show that Stockley still believes he has what it takes to get back into the lineup, as the easier option would have been for him to leave this month.
