League One duo Gillingham and Bristol Rovers are interested in signing striker Mikael Mandron on a free transfer this summer, according to HITC.

The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons at Colchester United and scored two goals in 41 appearances in League Two last season.

The Frenchman will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this month, after Colchester confirmed that he will not be offered a new deal.

Gillingham and Bristol Rovers are both looking to bolster their attacking options this summer and Mandron has emerged as a target for both of them, with Scottish Premiership side Hearts also interested.

The forward scored twelve goals in 95 appearances for the Colchester over his two seasons with the club, after joining from Wigan Athletic on a two-year deal in 2017.

Mandron started his senior career at Sunderland and made three substitute appearances in the Premier League, before departing in 2016.

He spent time on loan a various clubs, including Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United, before he joined National League side Eastleigh, where he went on to score ten goals in 28 games for the Spitfires.

The Verdict

Both Gillingham and Bristol Rovers will be keen to strengthen their attacking options this summer and Mandron could be a good signing for either of them on a free transfer.

The frontman has plenty of experience in League Two and should be able to handle the step up to the third tier.

Hearts are also interested in signing him though, so he could be tempted by a move to the Scottish Premiership instead.
