Sunderland defender Bailey Wright has sent a message to fans after signing on loan until the end of the season, which has drawn an excited response from fans of the North East club.

It was announced today that the central defender has joined the Black Cats on loan until the end of the season, arriving from Championship side Bristol City.

The 27-year-old is the Robins club captain but has fallen out of favour at Ashton Gate–making just four appearances this season.

He is a hugely experienced defender, with more than 250 appearances in English football and 24 caps for Australia, and should add some quality to Phil Parkinson's backline ahead of their promotion push.

Wright reached out to Sunderland fans on Twitter, to express his delight at joining the club and his excitement to get started.

After a shaky start under Parkinson, Sunderland have changed things around in recent weeks and have climbed back into the top six.

The addition of Wright should only boost their promotion credentials and he appears to be someone that is popular with the Stadium of Light faithful already.
