Millwall winger Kris Twardek has been voted the Canadian U-20 player of the season, confirming the youngster’s place as one of the brightest young talents in North American football.

The 20-year-old starred for the Canadians during the recent CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Costa Rica, scoring once as The Canucks crashed out at the group stage following defeats to Mexico and Honduras.

Born in Ontario, Twardek appeared for the Czech Republic at various youth levels before switching allegiances to Canada, and linked up with Millwall last year following a spell in his homeland.

Twardek made his Lions debut last year against West Brom in the EFL Cup, and has impressed in the reserve side in South London this semester.

Touted as one for the future by coaching staff at The Den, Twardek could be knocking on a first-team call-up very soon, with this award sure to motivate the player to challenge for a place in Neil Harris’ squad.
