Sunderland will look to sign Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre in the summer, but only if they win promotion to the Championship this season.

Reports from the Sunday People (05/05, page 51) claim that the Black Cats have identified the centre-back as a target if they make an instant return to the second-tier.

Kipre has been a regular for Wigan since his summer move, making 40 appearances in all competitions since signing from Motherwell in August for a fee of £1million.

The 22-year old has been impressive for the Latics, and they would be sure to make a profit on the player if he did make the move to Wearside.

Here, we discuss whether he would be a good signing for Sunderland...

George Harbey

"I have been impressed by Kipre this season, and I think he would be a good signing for Sunderland.

"He's still young and has plenty of time to develop as a player, and would be a great option to have in defence.

"Jack Ross is likely to be familiar with Kipre after his time in Scotland, and he will be hoping that the defender can improve his side next season, if they win promotion this term."

Louie Chandler

"Definitely a good signing.

"Sunderland have struggled to field a consistent defence this season so adding to it is a must this summer.

"Kipre has Championship experience and has done a decent job this season so I would get it done."

George Brooks

"This would be a smart move by Sunderland.

"Kipre is a good defender and has done well for Wigan in the Championship this season.

"He would be a good signing for Sunderland, perhaps they should try to sign him even if they miss out on promotion."
