Reading FC have had their fair share of signings that haven't lived up the high hopes set for them, but there were fans that were optimistic after one particular signing.

On Deadline Day 2018, the Royals confirmed the signing of Chris Martin on loan from fellow Championship side, Derby County.

See how Reading FC fans reacted to Martin signing for the club at the time on Twitter below.

Martin's spell at the Madejski Stadium wasn't one to remember, which will have certainly come as frustrating news to Reading supporters.

The experienced forward made just ten appearances for the Royals, and only netted one goal in his short spell with the Berkshire based club.

They struggled to stay afloat in the Championship and it was hoped that Martin would score the goals needed to keep them in the second tier of English football.

But the Scotsman didn't adjust to life in Reading well at all, and fans quickly grew frustrated with the Derby striker.

Martin had already shown that he could score goals on a consistent basis in the Championship, having netted 63 goals across a six-year-spell with Derby.

But his future with the Rams seems up in the air, and he was sent out on loan to Hull City this season, where he again, has struggled to make a notable impact in Nigel Adkins' side.

Martin has made 29 appearances in total for the Tigers as they make a late charge for the play-off places this season.

But he's scored just twice, and looks like a striker whose confidence seems to have been shattered in front of goal in recent years.

It remains to be seen as to how much longer Martin will remain with Derby, but it seems highly unlikely that he will be able to force his way into Frank Lampard's starting XI anytime soon.
