West Bromwich Albion will not be sending winger Oliver Burke back on loan to Celtic after the club's sporting director Luke Dowling suggested the 22-year-old 'will not be going anywhere near Celtic with the current manager' - as reported in The Scotsman.

Dowling went on to say: “We sent Oli to Celtic in good faith with Brendan Rodgers and (head of recruitment) Lee Congerton – really good people up there. They wanted Oli and I am sure they would have made him a better player.

“Once Brendan left to go to Leicester, the treatment he got from the manager in place – well, subsequently we do not expect any of our players to go anywhere near Celtic Football Club. We currently have a new manager who will start working and looking at Oli and hopefully he now has an opportunity here at Albion.”

So with Burke not heading back to Celtic, should new Baggies manager Slaven Bilic be looking to utilise the Scottish international next season?

We discuss........

George Dagless

"Yes.

"Bilic might be the perfect man for the job in terms of getting the best out of Burke.

"He is a player of considerable talent but his career is stalling.

"He showed at Celtic that he is good enough to have an impact but Neil Lennon hooked him after coming in and again things fell flat.

"Bilic is a good man manager, though, and will feel as though he can get a tune out of Burke - so I say get him involved."

Ned Holmes

"Burke is a curious one. After turning some heads in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig a few seasons ago he’s struggled to lock down a consistent starting position.

"I think he could provide the Croatian with a useful option and is certainly worth keeping in the squad.

"The Baggies are not blessed with a huge amount of depth going forward, especially with Salamon Rondon seemingly on the verge of leaving.

"If Bilic can inspire a bit of confidence in Burke and give him some regular minutes, I think he has the quality to be a dangerous."

Jacob Potter

"This should be a no-brainer for Bilic, as he’s a player with a point to prove.

"I was surprised to see Burke not featuring for West Brom last season, and I think they made a mistake in sending him out on loan, as they could have benefitted from having a player of his quality in the side.

"He will have been disappointed not to have made more starts for Celtic last season, but he did manage to score four goals, which isn’t the wort return for nine league starts.

"If he can recapture the form he had previously shown with Leipzig, then West Brom will have some player on their hands.

"He’s still only 22 and he’s a versatile option to have in the West Brom squad, as he can operate in a wide position, or as a striker, which he has been doing for Scotland recently.

"He could be the perfect man to step up if Rodriguez is to leave the club before the new season gets underway."
