Cardiff City have rejected a bid from Aston Villa for goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, according to Wales Online.

Newly-promoted Villa are believed to have made an £8million offer for the 29-year-old, who is reportedly only interested in leaving Cardiff for a Premier League side.

Etheridge enjoyed an impressive season for the Bluebirds last season despite the fact they were relegated from the top-flight, and he is now on Dean Smith's radar as Villa look to increase their goalkeeping options.

Jed Steer was between the sticks for Villa's impressive end-of-season run, and he proved to be the hero as Smith's side beat West Brom on penalties in the play-off semi-final. However, Steer was only in the side after being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton following injuries to Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic.

It now appears Smith is keen to strengthen his options in net, as he aims to have all areas covered ahead of Villa's Premier League return.

Plenty of Villa fans have responded to their side's interest in the Cardiff stopper, with the story dividing opinion among the fan base.
