‘Get him a statue now’ – Many Reading fans react to display of 27-year-old vs Coventry City

Reading kept up their push towards the automatic promotion spots following a comprehensive victory over Coventry City at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday.

The Royals are unbeaten since Christmas and always looked favourites to continue that run when top goalscorer Lucas Joao controlled beautifully before sweeping home a 16th minute opener.

Joao then turned provider for Andy Rinomhota to double Reading’s advantage just seconds after the interval before John Swift saved the best to last by sealing the points with an incredible rocket of a free-kick that the great Cristiano Ronaldo would have been more than proud of.

The win moved the Berkshire outfit up to 4th in the second-tier standings and just three points adrift of second-placed Swansea City, but perhaps more significant for Veljko Paunovic’s team, six points clear of the seventh-place team Stoke City.

Joao’s form has been a major reason for the Royals’ outstanding season – with the Portuguese striker’s opener last night his 13th goal in just 17 league appearances this term.

His assist against the Sky Blues means that he’s now been involved in 17 goals in as many matches – and we’ve been looking at how the Reading faithful reacted on Twitter to his Coventry display.
