Reading's George Puscas scored his eighth league goal of the season yesterday.

The Royals' record signing has been hit and miss this season. Some people love him, some don't so much, but with goals in his last two games, he's starting to prove his worth to the club.

Mark Bowen's side claimed a shock win on the road yesterday, beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 in the Championship - Yakou Meite continued his scoring form with his first-half opener, with Puscas flicking in the second, and Sam Baldock finishing from the spot in injury time.

It's Reading's first win since their New Year's Day and after the game, Puscas posted this on Instagram:

Barring a five-minute hat-trick against Wigan earlier in the season, Puscas really hasn't lit up the Championship. He's evidently a player with great skill but he's proved inconsistent since singing in the summer.

Puscas of late though has been far more impressive - two goals in his last two games has won a lot of fans over again, and they're slowly starting to see why Reading paid Inter Milan over £7.5 million in the summer for the Romanian international.

There's still plenty room for improvement, but Puscas is setting himself up for a prolific end to his debut season at the club, and could well be firing on all cylinders after the summer.

Reading aren't yet assured of Championship football next season. It's highly unlikely that they'll drop into the bottom-three, especially after yesterday's win, but Bowen needs to remain focused on picking up points, and seeing how well he can set his side up for a promotion push next year.

The verdict

Puscas remains a young player, and for his debut season in England as a record-signing striker, he's holding his own. Eight goals isn't the best return but he's had to work hard to create his chances, and he grabbed another goal with an instinctive finish yesterday.

He and Meite have become real threats for Reading of late, and it holds them in good stead as they battle for a top-half finish.
