George Johnston is clearly full of confidence at The UniBol at the moment and believes Bolton Wanderers can be in and around the promotion picture by the turn of the year.
Ian Evatt’s men have made an excellent start to life back in League One and centre back Johnston was not dwelling on dropping points when he spoke to The Bolton News.
He said: “I think we have done quite well so far. There have been a couple of opportunities missed but overall I don’t think we can be too disheartened by where we are sitting in the table. It’s a good position to be in, and I think we will be right up there by Christmas.
“What we have seen, what we have played against, I think on our day we are better than any team in this division. We are excited for Sheffield Wednesday, excited for a big month coming up.”
Johnston has had peculiar football upbringing, a product of the Liverpool academy before carrying on his development and making his senior debut for Feyenoord and then with a loan spell at Wigan Athletic in between arrived in Lancashire this summer.
The Trotters put together an outstanding run to seal automatic promotion last term so Johnston will be happy he has been able to come in and command a regular spot in the first team.

Johnston’s words speak to the winning mentality Evatt has instilled at the club and how despite being one of the division’s surprise packages as a newly promoted side, Bolton do not want to stop there and firmly believe they can earn back to back promotions.
Johnston is building a mightily effective centre back partnership with Portuguese giant Ricardo Santos and is a key cog in building a platform for the likes of Oladapo Afolayan and Antoni Sarcevic to express themselves in forward areas.
The Trotters’ trip to Sheffield Wednesday is probably the most exciting fixture in the Football League docket this weekend and Evatt’s men will be gunning for all three points once again.
