Sunderland captain George Honeyman has shared his post-match thoughts after the Black Cats booked their place at Wembley for the League One play-off final.

A 0-0 draw away to Portsmouth on Thursday was enough to see them through and Honeyman shared a short and sweet post after the final whistle.

Posting on Instagram, alongside a series of photographs from the match, Honey man wrote: "Well done to everyone. See you 26th May."

In a scrappy affair at Fratton Park, Sunderland came off the better, with the draw meaning Chris Maguire's first-leg volley was enough to send the Black Cats through.

Despite going into the game knowing they needed to win, Portsmouth struggled to create many clear-cut chances and found Jon McLaughlin in inspired form when they eventually did.

They will now face either Charlton Athletic or Doncaster Rovers in the final at Wembley next weekend as they look to return to the Championship.

The verdict

It was a thoroughly deserved draw from Sunderland who carried out their game plan to perfection.

Portsmouth never looked like they would break past the Black Cats defence and even when they did McLaughlin was at the top of his game to stop them.

They will now be desperate to put their Wembley hoodoo behind them on the 26th May.
