Middlesbrough were dismal at the KC  Stadiumon Saturday and were played off the park by a resurgent Hull, ending Middlesbrough's four match winning streak.

It continued Middlesbrough's run of failing to turn up in the big games which they were also guilty of last season.

George Friend though defended Middlesbrough's mental frailty in big games and claims Middlesbrough will recover over the international break.

“They took their chances,” said Friend to the Boro official site. “They were a bit fortuitous with the second goal and the third goal was a bit of a mistake.
“But they’ve got good players and perhaps we didn’t match them in all of the areas. They’re very well organised and have a lot of players who were in the Premier League last year.
“I think Jelavic and Brady are the two I can think of who left – you could probably tell me more. But like I said, they’re a strong team and were organised.
“Similarly against Rotherham we started well but didn’t capitalise on the goal we scored and Saturday was the same.
“We started well and kept pushing on but they scored and as soon as the second went in it was effectively over. When you go to Hull and they score two goals with a team of that quality it’s hard to get back.”

It's deja vu for Middlesbrough and Karanka who have lost again going into the international break which they did in October when losing 2-0 to Reading.

Friend says Boro will use the break to recharge the batteries and was disappointed at the fact they gave the away fans nothing to cheer at Hull.

“It’s unfortunate that there’s such a long break and we can’t go straight into a Tuesday game,” he said.
“But it’s a good time for those who’ve picked up knocks and little things to recuperate
Boro now sit in fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 30 points from 16 league games.
