Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has taken to Twitter to share a message with the club's supporters as he edges closer to making a return to competitive action.

The midfielder participated in a training session held at Hillsborough yesterday alongside his team-mates.

Byers has not featured for the Owls since their showdown with Burton Albion in October as he has struggled to overcome a foot injury.

In the absence of the midfielder last weekend, Wednesday managed to rescue a point in their showdown with Exeter City at St James Park.

A late strike from Callum Paterson cancelled out Jake Caprice's effort for the Grecians.

Currently third in League One, Wednesday will be hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend when they take on Oxford United.

If the Owls secure all three points in this clash and Plymouth Argyle slip up in their meeting with Morecambe, they will climb into the automatic promotion places.

Ahead of the club's showdown with Oxford, Byers has shared a short message with the club's fans on Twitter.

The midfielder posted an image of himself taking part in training with the caption: "Hello again."

The Verdict

Whereas it remains to be seen whether Byers will be fit enough to make his long-awaited return against Oxford, he is clearly making progress in his road to recovery.

When the midfielder is available for selection again, he will be confident in his ability to make a difference for Wednesday in the third-tier.

During the current campaign, Byers has provided four direct goal contributions in 13 league appearances and is currently averaging a respectable WhoScored match rating of 6.90 at this level.

With the Owls looking to secure automatic promotion to the Championship next year, they will be hoping that Byers will be able to maintain his consistency as well as his fitness.

By picking up a victory on Saturday in their meeting with the U's, Wednesday could use the confidence gained from this result to push on at this level over the course of the coming weeks.
