Former West Brom striker Geoff Horsfield has backed Dwight Gayle to be a big hit at the Hawthorns this season, predicting that he'll score '20-25' goals for Darren Moore's side.

The Baggies have started life in the Championship strongly, with a focused and devastating attack.

They're currently ninth in the table, but with 15 goals, have scored more than any other side in the division.

They secured the services of Newcastle striker Gayle on a season-long loan and he's already bagged three in five Championship outings.

Former Hawthorns hero Geoff Horsfield, who scored 15 times in 73 appearances for the Baggies, believes that their ability to hit the back of the net will keep them at the top of the table.

“[West Brom] started a bit slow but they have got a fantastic signing in Gayle – I think he is a 20-25 goal a season man and that will get them up there, it really will,” he told Birmingham Live. “I think the results when he (Darren Moore) took over were phenomenal and I couldn’t see why people were even thinking he is not good enough for the job. The results that he got were unbelievable for the rest of last season.”

The Baggies travel the short distance to Birmingham City tomorrow night for the first Midlands derby of the season. A win could see them move into third, albeit for 18 hours or so.

The Verdict

Horsfield is right, Dwight Gayle is a 20 goal man if he gets the right service and in this WBA side, he looks like he's going to get that service.

Thus far Darren Moore's side have looked a little shaky at the back, but there's been no problems going forward. That said, 11 of their 15 goals have come in games against Norwich and QPR, meaning they've scored four in four in the other matches.

Food for thought perhaps.
