Prospective Sunderland owner William Storey has claimed that his takeover bid is supported by "huge football names" and reiterated his "enthusiasm to take control", which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the North East club.

Storey has been outspoken about his attempts to become the new owner of the Black Cats and is one of many names to be linked with the club since Stewart Donald announced his intention to sell last year.

Nothing concrete has materialised since Donald made the announcement back in December, which came after significant pressure from fan groups.

Storey took to Twitter today to provide a fresh update on his potential takeover bid and reiterate his passion to get involved with the North East club.

Little progress appears to have been made by Storey since he first announced his interest earlier this year but he has ensured that his ideas have been circulated.

As well as having a vocal social media presence, the English businessman suggested in an interview that he wanted to take the Black Cats “out of the doldrums and back towards the pinnacle of British football”.
