Charlton Athletic have confirmed that assistant manager Johnnie Jackson has signed a new long-term deal with the club, which has drawn an excited response from many Addicks fans.

Jackson made nearly 300 appearances for the South London club before becoming a coach in 2017.

He became the caretaker assistant manager to Lee Bowyer in March 2018 and helped the Addicks secure promotion to the Championship last season.

The South London club has announced today that Jackson has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2023.

Speaking to the Charlton website, Jackson revealed his "massive love" for the club.

He said: "I’ve been here 10 years now, I feel like part of the furniture and I didn’t want that to end, so to get my future for the next few years secure and signed on is great."

Executive chairman Matt Southall added: "We’re delighted Johnnie has signed a new contract. He’s absolutely integral to the club going forward and the work he and Lee have done together is the reason behind so much of the club’s success.”

Southall was appointed as chairman following East Street Investment's takeover of the South London club and has worked quickly to secure some of their key men, with Bowyer being handed a new long-term deal last month.

It is understood that the Addicks are keen on offering Naby Sarr, Dillon Phillips and Alfie Doughty new deals.
