‘Genius’, ‘Incredible’ – Many Swansea City fans laud key figure after Coventry City victory



Championship outfit Swansea City pulled off a brilliant result at the CBS Arena last night, as they secured a 2-1 victory over high-flyers Coventry City.

Goals from prolific summer signing Joel Piroe and key creator Jamie Paterson in the first 12 minutes proved to be crucial as the Welsh side got off to the best possible start in the West Midlands, silencing the home support who had seen their team remain unbeaten all season up until that point.

Winning six and drawing one of their opening seven league games at home, taking an exceptional 19 points from a possible 21 prior to this meeting with Russell Martin’s men, the CBS Arena was something of a fortress and was heavily responsible for their lightning start to the 2021/22 campaign after managing to stay up with ease last term.

For the Swans, they had taken a step back after their 2-0 loss to Brentford in May’s second-tier play-off final and struggled in the early stages of the season, still getting to grips with Martin’s system and jelling together after seeing multiple key departures and a flurry of additions arrive at the Stadium in return.

The second-tier side’s manager, who joined from League One club MK Dons in August after Steve Cooper’s departure, is finally managing to get a tune out of his players after months of adaptation and was delighted to win all three points last night in what was expected to be an uphill battle for the Swans.

But were fans of the South Wales side happy with him after the final whistle against Mark Robins’ men – or did they feel their team won despite the 35-year-old and not because of him?
