Derby County have an ageing defence which is in need of a player like Liam Lindsay.

Lindsay was one of the top performers for Barnsley this season and barely missed a game even though he is 22-years-old. The trust shown in him by two separate managers suggests that he has a maturity beyond his years and is more than capable at this level.

Derby's current defence is made up of Richard Keogh and Curtis Davies who are both over 30 with 29-year-old Craig Forsyth sometimes brought in when they use a back three. They have plenty of experience, but that doesn't stop them from having bad spells such as when Keogh lost his place in the team after the 4-1 loss to Sunderland.

Bringing in the 22-year-old from Barnsley would be a great move while also not being too expensive considering they were relegated.  Lindsay is still a bit raw, so he is likely to make mistakes as he settles in, but he has a promising long-term future ahead of him which will help limit the ageing issue for the Rams. He will also have a number of experienced players to learn from which will help his development significantly.

Passing is an area that he would need to improve in especially if Derby get promoted because he currently averages 35.5 passes per game with a success percentage of 64.9, according to WhoScored. However, he is good at all the traditional aspects of defending because he averages 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 6 clearances per game.

Therefore, he could be a potential bargain for the Rams.
