Millwall boss Gary Rowett has revealed that on-loan Derby forward Mason Bennett could make his debut for his new club in their clash with West Brom next Sunday.

Bennett completed his temporary switch to The Den last Thursday following his failure to establish himself at Derby this term, but the 23-year-old did not feature during Millwall's 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend.

This can be owed to the fact Bennett has not played a senior match since suffering an ankle injury back in November, but Rowett believes the attacker could be in line to feature against the promotion-chasing Baggies with a full week of training under his belt.

“He’s only trained a couple of times at Derby and a couple of times with us,” Rowett told News At Den.

“I think he will need at last another week’s training, leading up to the West Brom game."

Bennett became Millwall's third addition of the January window following the signings of Ryan Woods and Bartosz Bialkowski on a permanent deal, with the Derby forward looking to break his season duck after failing to score during his nine outings to date.

The Verdict

Many Millwall supporters will have perhaps questioned the signing of Bennett given he has struggled to break into the Derby side this term, but they should definitely trust Rowett's judgement given the Lions boss has previously worked with Bennett.

It will now be interesting to see how Bennett fits into Rowett's plans at The Den, particularly given Millwall have been achieving plenty of success of late, and the West Brom match presents a great opportunity for Bennett to prove himself to supporters.

Millwall have an opportunity to obtain a real statement win in their play-off bid against the Championship leaders, and Bennett will also be especially hungry to impress following his disappointing first half of the season.
