Gary Rowett wasn't willing to comment on Millwall's pursuit of Birmingham City midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld.

South London Press revealed on Friday that the Lions had opened talks with the St Andrew's club over the possibility of a permanent deal for the Dutchman, whose out of contract in the summer.

Rowett has previously signed Kieftenbeld - bringing him to England from Groningen back when he was Blues boss in the summer of 2015.

And it appears that the Lions boss, whose made his feelings clear about wanting to improve his midfield department in this window, is interested in linking up with the midfielder once again.

Rowett was asked to provide an update on Millwall's interest of Kieftenbeld.

He told NewsatDen: "I'm not going to comment on other clubs' players. What I will say is that the club over this transfer window have tried to be really proactive."

The Verdict

This doesn't come as much surprise really.

On Friday, a deal appeared close - with We Are Birmingham even reporting that a deal had been completed - bur Rowett's comments don't leave us any closer to knowing whether Kieftenbeld will become a Millwall player in the coming days or he'll be staying with Birmingham.

Kieftenbeld has been involved in the Blues' recent matches, but with his general minutes quite restricted this season, and his contract expiring in the summer, a move to the Lions makes sense.
