Millwall manager Gary Rowett has given an injury update that won't please Lions supporters.

Ryan Leonard was set to return in the coming weeks but he has suffered a setback that will mean that he will be out for another four weeks.

Alongside Leonard on the sidelines is James McCarthy, the versatile player is still a few weeks away and Millwall's small squad is being effected by these injuries.

Since Rowett came into the club, the Lions have lost just once and that has seen them climb the table and move into 13th place with eyes firmly on pushing into the top half of the Championship.

Rowett has expressed that it's hard to cope with the extensive list of injuries, but him and his squad are going to get on with it.

Speaking to News at Den, when asked about Leonard, Rowett said: “The prognosis is that he’s going to be out for about another four weeks, so it’s disappointing. But it’s something you have to cope with with any player coming back from a long-term injury."

On McCarthy's injury, he said: “Macca again is probably a few weeks away. We’ve got quite an extensive list at the moment, but it’s something you have to cope with in the Championship."

The Verdict

It's never easy getting injuries, especially at this point in the season when the games start to come thick and fast. It will be really disappointing for Rowett not to have Leonard available for the Christmas period, and it looks like McCarthy may miss it as well.

It will be interesting to see if Millwall can keep their excellent form up so far under Rowett, or whether they begin to fade away due to these injuries.

Either way, it will be intriguing to see what, if any, business the Lions look to do in the January transfer window.
