Gary Rowett expects to have Daniel Ballard back available for selection on Saturday when Millwall make the trip to Blackburn Rovers, as stated during a conversation with London News Online.

The Northern Ireland international has been out of Championship action since late November, with the 22-year-old requiring knee surgery.

The Arsenal loanee had emerged as a regular first-team starter at The Den, impressing the Millwall faithful with defensive competence and ability when in possession.

Ballard started all but one of Millwall's opening 20 games this season, proving to be a vital component in Rowett's side, making his ex[ected return on Saturday a big boost.

It remains to be seen how much of a part Ballard will play when the Lions travel to Lancashire at the weekend, however, he is off the back of 70 minutes with the club's U23s.

The verdict

Ballard was one of the most impressive young players in the division during the first half of the season, and whilst it may take him a little bit of time to readapt, he will have every bit of confidence that he can reach those levels of performance once more.

Millwall are also seemingly in a good place at the minute, picking up 10 points from their last five games.

The Lions are also fresh off the back of an impressive 2-0 victory over QPR last night, a result that keeps their outside chances of securing a play-off spot intact.

The young defender could play a big role in what remains of this season with a lot still to play for.
