Stoke City boss Gary Rowett has revealed that he will speak to goalkeeper Jack Butland over the weekend as speculation continues about his future.

The England stopper, who is currently in Russia with his country, has been linked with Liverpool in the past, was widely expected to leave after the Potters were relegated.

However, many thought similar with Joe Allen, but the Welsh midfielder signed a new contract to stay at the club for the next few years.

And, Rowett revealed to the Stoke Sentinel that he will speak to his star man about his future and is hopeful of a similarly positive outcome.

"Jack is a terrific goalkeeper and obviously with England at the moment, everyone will speculate that because you’ve been relegated, of course he’s going to have to go, he’s going to want to go."

"But the reality is – and you’ve seen it with Joe Allen and other players – people want to be at this football club. I’ll speak to Jack and we’ll assess that as we go on."

The Verdict

It's hard to imagine that Butland will stay but you would've thought the same with Joe Allen.

As Rowett says, Stoke have the power in this situation and nobody could doubt that they are showing real ambition to get back to the Premier League as soon as possible.

Ultimately though, money will talk but the right offer will have to come in for Stoke to sell.
