Millwall manager Gary Rowett has stated that there is a risk of unsettling a group when signing players in the January transfer window.

The Lions boss has seen his side provide some excellent performances in recent weeks and that has made them concrete challengers for a place in the top six of the Championship.

Rowett has brought in Ryan Woods from his former club Stoke City in a bid to strengthen the current squad ready for a crucial few months ahead.

The manager has expressed that it is all about making sensible decisions in January and that there may also be one or two loans that clubs are waiting on.

Speaking to London News Online, Rowett said: "You’ve seen it a lot in January – you feel you have to do something because there are expectations around to do something. That can cause you a problem in terms of unsettling a group.

"We’ll try to make real sensible decisions. You have got one or two loans from Premier League clubs that I think a lot of teams are waiting on and are after."

The Verdict

Millwall have, so far, actually done some good business in the January window. Bartosz Bialkowski wasn't recalled by Ipswich so that is a bonus for the club for the rest of the season.

Woods has come in, and has tremendous talent, and if Rowett can bring out the player we saw at Brentford then he's made a very good deal.

It's all about being smart in January and identifying positions that are in need of strengthening throughout this specific month.

There is no point loaning a player that will sit on the bench for 50% of the time, it's about getting in a player who can play regularly and improve the current team.
