Millwall manager Gary Rowett has revealed that Zian Flemming suffered a knee injury during the club's recent victory over Stoke City

Flemming missed last night's League Cup clash with Cambridge United as a result of this issue.

In the absence of the 24-year-old, Millwall were eliminated from this competition as their League One opponents sealed a 1-0 victory at the Abbey Stadium.

Liam O'Neil fired an effort past Lions goalkeeper George Long in the 59th minute of this fixture.

George Honeyman was then shown a second yellow card for a foul on Saikou Janneh.

Isaac Olaofe missed two opportunities to level proceedings for Millwall who will now switch their focus to their upcoming clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Whereas Millwall managed to win their first league game of the season, the Blades were beaten by Watford on Monday.

Following yesterday's defeat to Cambridge, Rowett shared an injury update on Flemming.

Speaking to News at Den, Rowett said: "He just got a little injury, a grade one injury to his MCL.

"He just felt that grumbling for a week or two, felt it in a tackle over the weekend when he came on.

"It’s amazing that we get through all of pre-season.

"I felt last year was a horrific year for moments like that, and we’ve pretty much started the same."

The Verdict

Due to the nature of this injury, Flemming is set to be out of action for two to three weeks.

When the attacking midfielder is fit enough to feature again, he will be determined to make a positive impact for Millwall in the Championship.

Signed on a permanent deal by the Lions earlier this summer, Flemming produced a host of impressive performances in the Eredivisie last season as he provided 16 direct goal contributions for Fortuna Sittard at this level.

By easing Flemming back into action, Rowett will give the Dutchman time to adapt to life in the second-tier.

Millwall will be hoping to secure some positive results whilst Flemming recovers from his issue as they are set to play six league games this month.
