Former Derby County and Stoke City boss Gary Rowett has refused to rule himself out of the running to replace Neil Harris at Millwall.

The Lions are without a manager after the shock departure of club legend Harris just a few days ago, and the club will now have to begin the search to find a new man in charge at the New Den.

And speaking as a pundit during last night's Birmingham City and Middlesbrough game, Rowett admitted it's a job which would be of interest.

"Firstly, I'm not going to fight Roy Keane and Kevin Muscat for the job, that's for sure!" Rowett said, with quotes taken from Football.London.

"When a job comes up, that's got a very strong fan base and a really good tradition about the club, loads of people are going to be interested. I'm good friend with Neil (Harris) so I don't want to be disrespectful. You've asked me this eight times already this season so I'm going to look at little bit desperate if I keep saying yes!"

Rowett has been out of work since failing to turn the fortunes around at Stoke but has an impressive enough Championship CV, with spells at the likes of Birmingham and Derby both bringing elements of success.

Harris, on the other hand, had been in charge at Millwall for over four years and was well-liked by fans after his spell with the club as a player.

The Lions take on Leeds United today at home as they look to put the loss of Harris behind them and get a vital three points on the board.

The Verdict

Millwall could do a lot worse than set Rowett on.

The former Derby man is a sound manager who can get it right with the right squad, it would just be a question of whether it's a good fit for both coach and team.

The Lions thrive under a manager who drives them on and demands 100%. Whether that would be Rowett's way of working is the big question really.
