Millwall rounded off a winless November be recording their fifth consecutive Championship draw at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Lions' trip to St Andrew's turned out to be another frustrating afternoon for Gary Rowett's men, who registered just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes - which came courtesy of Murray Wallace's acrobatic late effort.

Despite going six games without winning, Millwall are only four points off the top-six, although part of their dip in form is down to their ever-growing injury list.

Rowett was without attacking trio Mason Bennett, Connor Mahoney and on-loan West Brom man Kenneth Zohore for the game against his former side, whilst Mahlon Romeo and midfielder Billy Mitchell were also unavailable.

Such were his injury problems, the Millwall manager handed a first Championship start since last December to Jiri Skalak - whose only other appearance this term had come against Cheltenham in the EFL Cup.

And Rowett explained his reasons for giving the 28-year-old his first league minutes this season.

He told NewsatDen: "I thought defensively he did really well. We need a bit from everyone going forward. Sometimes when you haven't played for that long you go there and try to make sure you do the job for the team.

"I thought he did that really well. He's worked incredibly hard. He's one that hasn't had many opportunities. But at the moment I think virtually every player has started a game, at some point."

The Verdict

Perhaps the only thing more surprising than seeing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson in the starting XI once again, was the inclusion of Jiri Skalak.

Having not started in the Championship since last December, you'd have been forgiven for thinking that he'd played his last game in a Millwall shirt.

But I think that Skalak's appearance here says more about the Lions' injury list, rather than his career at The Den being given a potential lifeline.
