Derby County manager Gary Rowett has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month, after the 43-year-old guided the Rams to a 100% record in October.

Wins over Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City and Leeds United capped a wonderful month for the former Burton Albion and Birmingham City boss, with the quadruple set of victories firing the Pride Park side firmly back into the promotion mix.

In an interview with the Rams official website, Rowett said: “It was a big month for us. Beating Forest in the local derby meant so much to the fans and all of us.”

“To finish the month four wins out of four games with a 100% record conceding only two goals and scoring a good amount of goals, we were really pleased with the work that we did.”

The Verdict

Rowett’s men were the form side of the division during the month of October, and although Rowett will argue a lot of their hard work was undone by the 4-2 home defeat to Reading at the start of November, the manager will be extremely impressed with the output of his side.

Four wins on the bounce is no mean feat at this level, and at this early stage of the season, a good run of form can completely alter a league position.

Derby were languishing towards the bottom of the table, but now lie just a point off the play offs with a game in hand, and fans will be content with their league position following the opening third of the new campaign.
