Stoke City boss Gary Rowett insists that Bojan can have a future with the club but revealed that it will be down to the player to show he wants to stay.

The popular forward scored in the 3-0 win over Walsall at the weekend which added to a good performance, and Rowett told the Stoke Sentinel how impressed he has been with the former Barcelona man.

"He’s a very, very good player. He’s a player we want to see if we can get back to what he’s been in the past, build that confidence."

However, it's still unclear whether the 27-year old will want to stay in the second-tier and the former Derby boss essentially said the ball is now in the players court.

"I’ve had a good conversation with Bojan and I said that we’ll both be really honest with each other. If he feels that he’s determined to contribute to what we’re doing next season, fantastic."

"If he feels that there’s an opportunity elsewhere and he’s interested in that, then we’ll sit down and have a discussion. He’s applied himself really, really well so far."

The Verdict

Rowett has handled this situation well and it's down to the player to decide if he wants to be a part of the Potters squad next season in such a demanding league.

Bojan's talent is undoubted and if he got back near to his best he could tear up the Championship and Rowett will hope that's the case if he stays.

Similarly, Stoke supporters would surely be delighted given the quality of the player.
