Millwall picked up a superb 2-1 win over promotion challenging Stoke City at the weekend and after changing his system slightly to pick up the three points, Gary Rowett has admitted to London News Online that he is 'aware' of the clamour to tweak his formation in home ties.

The Lions have had relative success so far this season, picking up 21 points so far and being well in the hunt for a play-off spot despite sitting in tenth place.

They've also lost only once in their last five games and despite having a much worse record at the Den compared to when the side play away, they managed to seal another valuable win at home over the weekend.

Their poor showings at home - the club are ranked 17th in the home form table - have led to some of the club's fans to call for a change in formation when Millwall do play at the Den.

Now, after sealing a win at the weekend, the club's boss has admitted to London News Online that he is 'aware' of the clamour to change his tactics slightly. He said: "It gives another player forward, it’s something we thought about doing.

“It changed the game a little bit, getting Smudge [Matt Smith] up there and Bradders [Tom Bradshaw] around him.

“I’m aware of that – it’s something we thought about doing before the game. I know there’s a real clamour to do that at home anyway. I get that, I understand that."

It ultimately led to the latter of the two players bagging both goals on Saturday, as the Lions stormed to the victory. Both goals came in the second half after the change to boot, when Matt Smith was able to get forward more to help out his strike partner.

It might mean that boss Gary Rowett now takes note of some of the fans clamouring for the change and starts to adopt a slightly different approach when it comes to home games. If it keeps on getting the side three points on a regular basis, then the manager himself won't mind changing it up one bit.

The Verdict

After the change in the weekend, the Lions managed to get more of a foothold in the game and ultimately bagged the two goals that sent the three points away with Millwall.

Maybe there is something then in playing a slightly different system at home.

Gary Rowett has certainly taken note and may fancy utilising something similar in their next fixture at the Den. If it works and gets them further and further up the table then that's the main thing for the club and its fans.
