Portsmouth are today celebrating the anniversary of a famous win over Southampton in the Premier League.

Looking back on the 2004/05 season, Southampton visited Fratton Park on April 24th, where they were met by a Pompey side ready to turn in a performance to remember.

Goals from Yakubu and Arjan de Zeeuw but Pompey in control after 17 minutes, and although Henri Camara would reply for Southampton just three minutes later, Lomano LuaLua would strike twice in five minutes to put the home side 4-1 up inside half-an-hour.

The game was, of course, Harry Redknapp’s return to Fratton Park after controversially leaving for Southampton.

Today, Gary O’Neil, who featured for 90 minutes in the midfield for Portsmouth, has taken to Twitter to relive a memorable day in the South Coast derby.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Take me back to 2005.”

The result that day left Southampton bottom of the Premier League table, but fast-forward to 2020 and things are very different.

Southampton are a Premier League side, whilst Portsmouth are back in the third-tier of English football, looking to build their way back towards the upper echelons of the Football League.
