Gary Bowyer has told the Telegraph and Argus that he's hoping to have some new arrivals at Valley Parade today, after letting Sean Scannell leave the club.

The Bantams' indifferent start to the new season continued this weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by Crewe Alexandra. James Vaughan gave them the lead in the 32nd minute, but goals from Charlie Kirk and Tom Lowery saw the home side turn things around.

That result leaves Bradford in 12th place, six points behind early leaders Exeter City. After the game, Bowyer confirmed that he's keen to add to his ranks before the 5pm deadline this afternoon.

“We’re still looking. If the right opportunity comes along for somebody and we feel he can improve the group, we’ll look to do that," he said.

“We’ll crack on and see where we are at 5pm.”

Bowyer also confirmed the reason behind letting Scannell leave Valley Parade. He had his contract terminated by mutual consent, allowing him to join Blackpool on a free transfer.

Former Blackpool boss Bowyer revealed it was the lure of League One football that drew the winger away from Bradford.

“League One football was the attraction for Sean and we wish him all the best.”

The Verdict

It's going to be a busy day for Bradford. They probably need a pair of fresh legs up front, a younger striker who can add something different to James Vaughan and Clayton Donaldson.

Like Walsall, they were full of confidence dropping out of League One, but they've found it tough going already this season. League Two is an unforgiving place for new faces and Bradford have had to make one of the toughest trips in the basement division this weekend; Gresty Road.

Bowyer needs to tinker with his squad, but not too much. He has quality, but one or two more would fully round off a capable squad.
