Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer has issued strong praise for his Macclesfield Town counterpart Daryl McMahon amid ongoing financial troubles at the club.

In recent months, Macclesfield Town have become the latest club to be embroiled in financial trauma with the players failing to receive their wages on time, which has led to the EFL intervening to investigate the issue.

Having already seen Bury perish this season and Bolton barely surviving expulsion too, it is a shame to see another club go through the same financial troubles that threaten to derail the club’s season and beyond.

Bradford City face Macclesfield Town on Saturday looking to steal a march on the sides occupying the automatic promotion places as their recent patchy form has seen them slump to seventh in the league. The Silkmen currently sit 14th in the league and eight points above the relegation zone, which a commendable standing considering their treacherous situation behind the scenes.

The Bantams’ manager Gary Bowyer is no stranger to working at clubs struggling under financial problems, having managed Blackburn Rovers after their controversial ownership oversaw their relegation from the Premier League, and more recently Blackpool who have been suffering from ownership troubles and financial constriction too.

Speaking to the club’s official site ahead of Bradford’s trip to Moss Rose, Bowyer had this to say on their current woe: "The manager there is doing a fantastic job in handling the players, with the state the club is in. I have been through a similar situation and know it galvanises the team massively and makes the players fight for each other."

The Verdict

No one wants another club to have to suffer from financial mismanagement and subsequent meltdown, especially after the events at Bury and Bolton at the beginning of the season. Bowyer will be the first to outline that, having gone through similar problems throughout his managerial career.

He will, however, be hoping that his side can bounce back from the weekend’s defeat by claiming a positive result against the Silkmen.
