Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk says he side will come up against a similar task to the one they faced against Barnsley on Saturday, when they make the trip to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town tonight.

Second-from-bottom Barnsley held Wednesday to a 1-1 draw at the weekend, putting them a point ahead of Luton ahead of their clash with Monk's men this evening, and the Owls boss believes this game could have a familiar feel to the one at Oakwell on Saturday.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star about whats he expects from the clash with the Hatters, Monk said: "It will be a similar game to Barnsley in the sense that it will be a battle.

"We know they are scrapping for their lives and we are going to have to match that. It is a quick turnaround."

Reflecting on that performance against the Tykes, and what his side need to do to turn one point into three against Luton, the Wednesday boss continued: "We competed against Barnsley but we need to show more composure and that's what we need to improve for Wednesday.

"With the ball, they are good players. They just need to trust themselves and make better decisions with the ball at the right times."

That draw with Barnsley means that Wednesday have now won just one of their last eight league games, leaving them 12th in the Championship table, six points adrift of the play-off places.

Monk is confident that form will improve sooner rather than later, although it seems the Wednesday boss feels playing teams at the wrong end of the table is not helping his side at the minute, as he added"Wins give you belief. You can see the fight and attitude is there. We are trying to do the right things.

"If we can get that win, you can often turn that corner and put you on certain types of run.

"But no one is going to give it to us. It is even harder when you are playing against these teams (at the bottom) because we are the stage of the season where they are fighting for their lives."

The Verdict

You hope for Luton's sake that Monk is right here.

While things are looking pretty bleak for the Hatters as it is, if they do not put up much of a fight against Wednesday on tonight, then it will appear as though they have already thrown the towel in, meaning they may as well confirm relegation now.

As for Wednesday themselves, this looks to be a perfect opportunity to show they have not given up in their own fight to secure a play-off place this season, which they risk doing if things do not improve sooner rather than later.

It is interesting to read what Monk has to say about it being harder to play teams down the bottom of the table, since the majority of those not battling relegation still harbour hopes of the top-six, suggesting that not only will they still have something to fight for, but that the quality they are doing that with will be even better.
