Garry Monk has spoken highly of defender Morgan Fox in his press conference ahead of Sheffield's fixture this weekend against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

"I'm delighted for Morgan, he deserves it.

"He's a great professional, he's taken his opportunity and is doing exactly what we need him to do. He needs to keep on that path."

Monk has taken Sheffield Wednesday to fifth in the Championship this season and they have been in impressive form of late, going unbeaten in their last four and claiming a good point against Leeds last time out.

Players like Fox have been important players for the club this season despite not necessarily being expected to be key players this season and the defender is a player who epitomises the importance of having a competitive squad.

Fox has made nine appearances this season and has played a big part in the clubs resurgence under Monk. Starting and playing 90 minutes in the last three games Fox has been a key part of a defence that has kept two clean sheets in those three games.

Fox is a versatile defender, naturally a left-back who can comfortably slot into a central defensive role which is another positive he brings to the Wednesday team and another likeable quality about the former Charlton man.

The Verdict

Fox has been a different player for Sheffield Wednesday under Garry Monk. In fact, the Owls have looked like a very strong side since Monk has come in and they will be hoping to make the play-offs this campaign.

The Championship is a tough league and the importance of squad depth and rotation goes without saying, with players like Fox performing consistently well this season, Monk will be hoping to continue to get the best out of his players as they challenge for promotion.
