One thing was apparent from Middlesbrough’s opening day defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers – Garry Monk’s side was lacking a real creative spark.

Boro lined up with Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher in attack, but the Teessiders still struggled to breakdown a stern Wolves defence, with the trio having very little goalscoring opportunities.

That is an area Monk will be looking to strengthen between now and the end of the summer, as he aims to find the formula that will guide Boro back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Here at FLW, one player we believe Monk should be fighting to bring to the Riverside Stadium on-loan is Liverpool’s Ryan Kent, who looks set for a spell away from Anfield, after agreeing a new deal with the Premier League club.

The 20-year-old winger has spent time away from Anfield on two occasions, with Coventry City in League One and Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship.

Those two spells saw Kent make 61 league appearances, including 44 in the Championship last season for Barnsley, which saw him score three goals and add one assist.

Despite not looking the most creative player during his time with Barnsley, he did impress, helping Paul Heckingbottom’s side to a comfortable mid-table finish last year.

However, Kent looks to be a much more confident player following his spell at Oakwell, impressing for Liverpool on their pre-season tour and earning a new long-term contract at Anfield, thanks to some lively and direct performances.

Kent could be just what Middlesbrough need in the Championship, as the 20-year-old has the potential to be the link between midfield and attack, which was missing during the club’s opening day defeat.

Despite their opening day defeat, Boro will still be challenging for a place in the top-six, with Monk having perhaps the best squad in the division.

However, the addition of Kent would give the Teessiders a different dimension and solve a problem position.
