Birmingham City manager Garry Monk says the team have had to deal with more than any other club in the Championship this season.

It has been a difficult few weeks for Birmingham, after the team were handed a nine-point deduction by the EFL for breaching profitability and sustainability rules.

The points deduction has seen the Blues fall from play-off hopefuls into a relegation battle, with the team currently 18th in the Championship table, six points above the drop zone.

Monk was speaking to the club's media at his press conference ahead of the Championship clash with Derby County tomorrow.

The Blues boss was quick to remind people that the team do not deserve to be in the position they currently find themselves and says the players are determined to ensure the club remain in the second tier.

Birmingham now face two potentially season-defining matches over the Easter weekend, travelling to play-off hopefuls Derby tomorrow, before another crucial away game at relegation rivals Rotherham United on Monday.

The Verdict

It's been a difficult few weeks for Birmingham City, but Monk still has every reason to be confident of his side's chances of Championship survival.

The Birmingham boss is probably right in his view that he team do not deserve to be in the position they are in, as the players have been punished for something beyond their control.

However, Bolton Wanderers fans will probably feel that their club have been through more this season, given the position the team are currently in and the ongoing off-the-field problems surrounding the club.
