Sheffield Wednesday have recently been linked with a loan move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah according to The Athletic.

The forward is also attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, although it remains to be seen as to which club is the frontrunner to land his signature.

When quizzed on a whether Nketiah is a target for the Owls this month, Garry Monk remained coy and kept his cards close to his chest over any potential signings during the January transfer window.

"We have got our targets and it is competitive. We will keep them to ourselves."

Nketiah recently returned to Arsenal from a loan spell with Leeds United, where he struggled for consistent game time with Marcelo Bielsa's men.

In total, the youngster made 19 appearances for the Whites, scoring five goals for them before being recalled from the loan spell after their 1-1 draw with West Brom.

Sheffield Wednesday were hit with a major injury blow, with Monk confirming in the same press-conference that Steven Fletcher is set for a spell in the treatment room for 8-10 weeks.

This could mean that the Owls boss is active in the January transfer window, although it seems as though he won't be pressured into speaking out on who is potential transfer targets are.

Sheffield Wednesday are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Garry Monk's side.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised to see him keeping his options to himself.

Sheffield Wednesday could certainly benefit from signing a striker this month, especially with Steven Fletcher being ruled out for 8-10 weeks with a fresh injury.

I think that Nketiah could certainly add something to the Sheffield Wednesday team for the remainder of this year's campaign, and he'll feel as though he has a point to prove in the Championship after not being given much of an opportunity by Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United.
