New Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has praised the attitude of Fernando Forestieri, following his recent ban for alleged racist abuse of Krystian Pearce during a friendly with Mansfield Town in 2018.

Despite being found not guilty in court with regards to the allegation, it was recently announced by the FA that Forestieri had been banned for six games as a result of the accusation.

As a result, the Argentine was absent from Monk's first game as Owls boss, which ended in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Sunday.

Although Forestieri is set to be out of action for some time yet, it appears as though the 29-year-old has already made a positive impression on his new manager.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's home game with Fulham on Saturday afternoon, Monk revealed that he believes Forestieri has shown a 'very good attitude' in response to his ban, with the Owls boss also stressing the importance of keeping attacker in a 'good condition'.

Prior to his ban, Forestieri had made four appearances in league and cup for Wednesday this season.

Wednesday currently sit ninth in the early Championship standings, having won four and lost three of their opening seven league games.

The Verdict

This looks to be an encouraging sign for Sheffield Wednesday.

That Forestieri has impressed Monk with his attitude, despite not being available for selection, appears to suggest that he is already thinking about forcing his way back into the side once his suspension is over.

I do agree with Monk that is is important to keep him in a good condition, so he can be fit and ready to return to action for the Owls as soon as possible.

The fact that he has apparently shown a good attitude is a promising sign in that sense, since it seems to imply that he is training hard in a way that ensures he will be able to make that swift return to the Wednesday side.
