Garry Monk provides important Middlesbrough update

Middlesbrough are set to appeal the red card that Adama Traore’s received in Tuesday’s clash with Aston Villa, reports the club’s official website.

Garry Monk has confirmed that Boro will learn the outcome of their appeal soon, with the Teessiders hoping to receive some justice.

Traore was sent from the field after just four minutes of Boro’s draw with Aston Villa, after the 21-year-old put in a rash challenge on Conor Hourihane.

Boro held on with 10 men for almost an hour, before Villa also had Henri Lansbury dismissed.

The fixture ended goalless between Boro and Villa, but was not short of entertainment or controversy, with both teams finishing with just 10 men.

The result left Boro ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table, with Monk’s side looking to move back into the play-off zone this weekend when they welcome Queens Park Rangers to the Riverside Stadium.

Monk will hope to have Traore available to him, with the winger having a positive impact on the Boro squad so far this season.

Traore has featured on four occasions, particularly impressing against Bolton Wanderers last Saturday, providing two assists for Britt Assombalonga in a 3-0 victory for the Teessiders.

The Verdict

It is hard to call whether Traore’s red card will be overturned, as his challenge was reckless at an early stage of the fixture with Villa.

However, both Monk and Boro’s supporters will be hoping their appeal is successful, with Traore showing already this season that he could be key to the club’s success.

If he can rediscover the class he showed against Bolton he could almost be unplayable in the Championship.
